Expository Preaching in Kid's Church?

One of the biggest misconceptions in Kids Ministry is that children only want short attention-grabbing games, object lessons, and surface-level Bible stories. But the truth is… children are often hungry for something deeper. They don’t just want entertainment. They want truth that makes sense, truth that feels real, and truth that helps them understand God’s Word.
That’s why expository preaching can be so powerful in KidMin.
Children are fully capable of walking through Scripture verse by verse when it is presented in a way they can understand. In fact, many children actually crave it because it gives them security, clarity, and confidence in God’s Word.
The key is HOW we present it. It means becoming a storyteller. It means bringing Scripture to life through emotion, voice inflection, movement, questions, visuals, and interaction while still staying faithful to the text.
We do not need to water down God’s Word for children.
We need to communicate it creatively, clearly, and passionately.
Because children are not too young for deep truth.
To the KidMin leader who feels intimidated by teaching Scripture deeply… you CAN do this.God never asks us to teach His Word and then leaves us to figure it out alone. As you study, pray, prepare, and spend time in Scripture, the Holy Spirit helps you understand what you are teaching. He brings clarity to your mind and wisdom to your heart. Sometimes the understanding comes little by little, but every moment spent in God’s Word is growing YOU too.
And remember this: you were created in the image of a creative God.
The same God who designed sunsets, oceans, music, color, laughter, imagination, and storytelling lives inside of you. He can give you creative ways to explain difficult truths to children. He can help you turn Scripture into moments children remember for years.
You do not have to be a seminary professor to teach scripture well. You simply need a willing heart, a teachable spirit, and a love for God’s Word. Children do not need perfection. They need leaders who are passionate enough to open the Bible and help them understand it. God will meet you in the preparation process every single time.
